C.S.U. Constructores de Sistemas Utópicos (2017)

Concept
What shall we say of the rich who keep the wages of the workers, not only with violence and deceit, but under the pretext of the laws? […] These inventions of the powerful, adorned with the colors of the nation, become laws; and wicked men with insatiable greed divide among themselves the goods that should be destined to the need of everyone. How far this is from the welfare of the Republic of Utopia! Utopia. Tomas Moro

Since the beginning of the so-called Great Recession of the 21st century in 2008 and visualized with the fall of Lehman Brothers, we have witnessed a situation of economic-social crisis worldwide. Initially posed as one more crisis, within the ‘natural’ fluctuation of the economic system of supply and demand, it was soon established that one of the fundamental causes was the self-interested enrichment of corporations and multinationals. According to an OECD report, “the difference between rich and poor has never been so high” 1. At the level of the European Union, with the successive crises of the euro, of migration policies and of Brexit, we find ourselves in a worrying panorama, which we could almost define as close to “a failed state”.

Proyect
The installation shows a set of small robotic models / modules that form the “utopian space”. Of variable formats, they will have their “own entity” (autonomous movement, reprogrammable and with taking biodata). It includes intercom, movement, minimal interaction, geo-positioning, etc. They are presented as metaphors for the city in real time. To this end, different types of audiovisual mini-projections are planned that visualize contents and concepts of utopia and the city. The installation presents two models of cities connected to each other: C.S.U. Matrix and C.S.U. Satelite.
