Robotics in art

Art and robotics. Technology as aesthetic experimentation
Art, Science and Technology Course: Conversations with aliens. Dialogues between science and contemporary art
Reina Sofía National Museum. 2021.
Directed by Alberto Murcia
With the emergence of new technologies, the scope of the arts has surpassed the classic assigned role of “contemplative object” to become formats of direct interaction with the public and its environment, in the construction of new languages and aesthetic objects. Robotics, which is marking economic, social, industrial, scientific, medical and even educational evolution, finds in its artistic production an endless field of experimentation and development.
This conference defends and recognizes the possibilities that this production represents for the future of the arts. It shows a historical, literary and aesthetic journey of the different proposals that artists have been proposing in their theoretical and practical research, since the first automata of the s. XVIII to the last sensitive robotic machines, passing through the applications of telematic formats, the figure of the cyborg or social robotics. Without a doubt, as Gerfried Stocker, director of Ars Electronica Center points out: The art of tomorrow is the art of the media.
