During the last decades, one of the central contributions of feminism has been the conceptualization of gender as a cultural and social category and the denial of its essential character. Departing from the traditional theories that see the male / female opposition as universal “essences”, feminist theory points to the constructive nature of these realities and, therefore, to their instability and mutability. According to the critique of gender technologies, in every society there are a series of social and discursive instances that “produce” and “engender” the subject as male or female. The way in which sexuality is lived by the subject is also part of that generic construction and determined by these technologies.
