Seminar focused on the study of the concepts of utopia and dystopia in their aesthetic, literary, filmic, architectural and social imaginaries.

Unit 1.
-‐ Presentation of the seminar, objectives and operation. General introduction to the concepts of utopia. Characteristics, development and historical importance in the construction of just and egalitarian societies. Presentation of case studies I: art and utopia.

Unit 2.
-‐ Deepening of aspects corresponding to the current developments of study concepts. Social architecture. Escapism and modernity. The “American dream” in the European and Latin American utopian process. Dialectic of utopia versus dystopia. Presentation of case studies II: art, utopia / dystopia. Putting in common the first approaches of the students about the construction and development of the “utopian object”. Group work.

Unit 3.
-‐ Aesthetic vanguards and social activism. Rethinking the public space. New needs of a world in crisis. Collaborative media, technology and languages. Presentation of case studies III: art, common space, architecture. Construction and development of the “utopian object”. Group work.

Unit 4.
-‐ Futuristic visions of art, architecture and science fiction. Questions, doubts, criticisms and any conclusion? Presentation of case studies IV: art, utopia / dystopia, architecture and science fiction. Construction and development of the “utopian object”. Group work.
