The Oneida Commune and ‘Free Love’ (2021)

Throughout the 19th century, as a reaction to the expansive and socially degrading capitalist process of the Industrial Revolution, different “visionaries” emerged. From messianic or social revolutionary thoughts (utopian socialists) they promulgated the creation of fairer communities, normally outside the status quo and what the Victorian Puritan society considered appropriate for the correct social customs and moral rectitude of the time.

The Oneida Commune is a special case within the different utopian social experiences for its social functioning and for the defense of freedom of sexual encounters.
