Inexterno (1996)

The audiovisual installation Inexterno proposes a reflection on the idea of reality and how it can be modified through the subject’s actions.

The work creates two distinct spaces: one exterior and one interior. Outside, the public encounters a video projection of images whose origin is unknown. Upon passing through this projection, they discover a structure and an entrance that allows passage into a labyrinthine development, leading to the central interior space, where they find the origin of the external images on a computer. The viewer can manipulate and play with the CD-ROM that generates these images, modifying the entire installation.

Created by the interdisciplinary art collective Proyecto ß, founded in Madrid in 1994, dedicated to interactive installations, CD-ROMs, and open-access projects on the web until early 1997. The collective consisted of Daniel Cabeza, Roberto Desiré, Ricardo Iglesias, Sylvia Molina, and Rosa Moral. It borrows the β from computer science as a testing ground, an element of continuous development and evolution of the media in constant contact with users.
